Are you passionate about history and enjoy bringing it to life? Do you want the opportunity to fire muskets and cannons? If so, then apply to be a part of our Historic Weapons Program!

Throughout the year, Moores Creek National Battlefield offers a variety of interpretive programs to visitors, free of charge! Due to a high demand of these programs, the park is looking for volunteers to assist in providing quality experiences for visitors. Living history is an interpretive technique where the past is brought back to life. Here, emphasis is placed on the daily life of those living in the early years of the American Revolution, the battle of Moores Creek Bridge, and the people who made up the citizen soldiers who fought here. The selected volunteers will assist with operating and conducting Historic Weapons programs in support of our living history programming efforts.

Operation tasks may include:

  • Providing musket and cannon demonstrations to visitors, pending certification
  • Providing historical information about the battle, the soldiers, and the weapons associated with the Revolutionary War
  • Following prescribed interpretive techniques and conducting interpretive programs
  • Cleaning and maintaining weapons, rolling/filling cartridges, assisting with weapons inventory, continue drilling and assist in training other volunteers in the Manual of Arms
  • Assist with events both on-site and off-site
  • Willingness to dress in period-correct, male-presenting clothing, regardless of gender identity

Park Hours: Tuesday - Saturday; 9 am - 5 pm

Occasionally, special events will extend beyond our normal park hours. No specific availability is needed, but we do ask that you attempt to make all of our special events and required trainings.
