Location: Park Visitor Center and Park Headquarters, Calumet, MI
This spring and summer, this position will see you working in the Calumet Visitor Center dispensing information and making good conversation with the visitors. Other duties may include helping park staff prepare for with special events and school field trips, conducting interpretive programs, and more.
This position is vital to us - so vital in fact, that you'll get your own shirt to wear. You'll also have the option to attend our seasonal staff training in May to learn more about your duties.
Duties
• Staffing the visitor center desk and sales area
• Providing trip-planning assistance
• Disseminating information in person or via mail, telephone, or electronic mail (if background check cleared for computer use.)
• Assisting with, or conducting interpretive programs (i.e., orientations, pop-up programs, talks and hikes)
• Helping to prepare for and staff special events
• Help to construct temporary displays and exhibits.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Experience with, or ability to perform information desk work, office/clerical, tour guide/interpretation, visitor information, light housekeeping, and general assistance.
Must be comfortable speaking to individuals or groups of people (up to 20).
Willing to work collaboratively with others as an active part of our team. Promoting positive and friendly interactions with visitors and staff.
Knowledge of the area and subject matter are preferred, but not required.
Retail sales- able to learn cash register operations.
Able to help with special events.
Physical Demands
Long periods of sitting, standing, or bending. Lifting items up to 30 pounds may be required.
Minimum Age
18 years
Minimum Time Requirements
4 hours per week preferred.
Training required/provided: Yes- in house training provided.
Uniform required/provided: Yes – shirt provided.
