3D Printing Technician

Description: 

This position is responsible for assisting the park in creation of 3D printed items.  

The main goals of this position are to bring the park into the 21st century provide training to the staff in use of the 3D printer, design items that will benefit the park, use the 3D printer; or use other related technologies. 

Position Duties:  

As a volunteer, you will improve the visitor experience, and aid in moving the park into the 21st century, helping visitors to understand the significance of the resources of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace. This will include working with the 3D printer, and other related technologies.  

This includes:  

• Following the schedule 
• Assist Education and Interpretation staff with use of the 3D printer and related technologies.    
• Help brainstorm ways to improve park with 3D printed items.   
• Help design 3D files and printed items.  
• As needed, preform other related duties as assigned. 
• Use of a government vehicle may be required while on duty.  

Qualifications:  

• Ability to communicate effectively and enthusiastically with diverse staff.   
• Have a strong interest in natural and cultural resources and conservation.   
• Must have a positive attitude.  
• Ideal for experienced 3D printer users.  

Requirements:  

• Complete necessary administrative paperwork (Volunteer Service Agreement, Job Hazard Analysis, etc.).  
• Wear provided volunteer uniform while performing duties.   
• Report observed violations to appropriate staff. Do not perform law enforcement duties.   
• Represent the National Park Service in a professional manner.   
• Record volunteer hours in binder at the Front Desk or digitally online.   
• May be required to undergo a general background investigation.

Work Environment: Volunteer may work in a variety of settings, indoors and out, depending on duties being preformed, varying from the park visitor center, memorial building, birthplace grounds, picnic area, off-site, or Knob Creek locations.  

Conditions of Service: 

• This volunteer reports directly to the Volunteer Coordinator.    

Physical Demands: None.  

Training:  

The volunteer must complete required training. Training will cover topics such as: the mission, history, and management of the park, safety, and job specific related topics. If driving a government vehicle, volunteer must complete the appropriate driving forms and Defensive Driving training to be allowed to drive a government vehicle. 

Other comments:  

The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace, Birthplace unit hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours worked will typically fall within this timeframe. Typically, this volunteer will work a minimum 8 hours a month. Shift lengths are negotiable.
