Tackle Invasive Plants at Dyke Marsh

National Park Service — McLean, VA, VA

At this wildlife preserve, there should only be bursts of color, not invasive plants, and our partners Friends of Dyke Marsh need your help keeping these botanic baddies at bay!

The marsh is one of the largest remaining freshwater tidal wetlands in the greater Washington, DC area; birds build their nests, flowers bloom, and boats traverse along its 485 acres. Unfortunately, many invasive plant have also taken root, crowding out natives and smothering the park's natural beauty. With your assistance, we can clear out non-native species and protect Dyke Marsh for everyone to enjoy!

Up for the task? Gather at the Haul Road Trailhead at 9:00 AM to meet Friends group leaders; they'll have all the supplies you need, but feel free to bring your own gloves and tools. Make sure to wear clothing that protects against thorns and poison ivy (long sleeves & pants, boots, high socks, etc.), and don't forget your sunscreen!
