The Calaveras Ranger District near Arnold, CA is looking for a handful of volunteers to be campground hosts at different locations on the Stanislaus National Forest. A campground host does a variety of different tasks:


·      Clean restroom facilities

·      Interact with, help, and answer questions from the public

·      Communicate with Forest Service staff about campground operations and of concerns

·      Ensure campsites are clean for the next visitors

·      Pick up litter and micro trash around the campground

·      Educate the public on campground rules and wildlife safety

·      Clean out established fire rings

·      Can help Forest Service staff with other project work


Camp Host locations we are looking to fill for the summer of 2026 are:


Highland Lakes Campground:

o  Nearby trail access

o  Well pump water

o  Bear boxes, picnic tables, fire rings

o  Vault toilets


Mosquito Lakes Campground:

o  Nearby trail access

o  Great fishing

o  Bear boxes, picnic tables, fire rings

o  Vault toilets


Utica Campgrounds

o  Camp host will manage both Sandy Flat Campground and Rocky Point Campground

o  Great Verizion/AT&T cell service       

o  Excellent kayaking/stand-up paddleboarding

o  Well pump water

o  Bear boxes, picnic tables, fire rings

o  Vault toilets


Stanislaus River Campground

o  Great fishing

o  Well pump water

o  Bear boxes, picnic tables, fire rings

o  Vault toilets


Black Springs OHV Campground

o  OHV trail access

o  Septic hookup for host site

o  Bear boxes, picnic tables, fire rings

o  Vault toilets


These locations do not have electricity and may not have cell service. Having an RV, Camper, Camp Trailer, or Sleeper Van is preferred. Hosts with tents may be considered on a case-by-case basis.


Septic hookups are only available at the Black Springs OHV Campground, but dump stations are located in Calaveras Big Trees State Park and at Angels Camp RV. Other amenities are Big Trees Market, Camp Connell Grocery Store, and Alpine Laundry (in Arnold).


Camp hosts stay for free in campgrounds. If funding allows, camp hosts may be reimbursed $25-$40 dollars per day. The time commitment is typically from May – October but may vary based on the campground.
