Help the National Parks of Boston get our volunteers ready to serve!

The National Parks of Boston relies on dedicated volunteers to support programs, events, visitor services, stewardship projects, and other activities throughout our parks. We are looking for volunteers to help establish and organize our volunteer uniform system for the upcoming season.

As part of this hands-on project, volunteers will help transform our Harbor Room into an organized, easy-to-maintain space where volunteer uniforms can be stored, inventoried, and prepared for use. Volunteers will help ensure uniforms are consistently prepared, organized, and ready for the people who make our parks special.

Duties may include sorting and organizing uniforms, patches, and related supplies, applying patches using an iron, using a seam ripper to remove out‑of‑date patches, and counting and tracking uniforms as part of the inventory process.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on projects, organizing, working with their hands, and helping behind the scenes. No previous experience with uniform preparation is required. Training and instructions will be provided.

Time Commitment:

Volunteer schedules are flexible and will be coordinated with the supervisor based on your availability and park needs. Volunteers are expected to contribute approximately 2–4 hours per week throughout the month of October, with opportunities to schedule shifts on weekdays and/or Sundays.

Qualifications:

No previous experience is required. We are looking for volunteers who are dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable following instructions, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Volunteers should be comfortable working with an iron after receiving appropriate instruction and safety guidance. Attention to detail is especially important, as volunteers will help ensure patches are consistently positioned and securely attached to uniforms.

Whether you're looking to support the National Parks of Boston behind the scenes, gain hands-on experience, or simply help make sure our amazing volunteers are ready for their next project, we'd love to have you join us!

If you are under 18 and interested in volunteering, please contact us directly (Adena_Cohen@nps.gov) as we have special guidance and volunteer.gov does not allow minor applications
