Saguaro Trails Crew Volunteer

Key Responsibilities:

· Assisting in the maintenance and construction of hiking trails with Saguaro National Park.

· General trail maintenance such as clearing of drainage features, out sloping trail tread, logging and brushing trails, bridge repair and/or construction.

· Routine painting, rough carpentry, raking of trail tread.

· Operate power, hand and stationary tools such as, drills, Pulaskis, shovels and Mcleods.

· Shaping of stone and construction and maintenance of dry and wet multi and single coursed walls.

· Work cooperatively with park staff, partners, and the public.

Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry 30–60 pounds routinely.

· Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

· Completion of required paperwork

· Adherence to safety protocols and use of protective equipment.

· Professional conduct and respect for all staff, volunteers, and visitors.

· Ability to hike on uneven, rough mountainous terrain (up to 10 miles per day) while carrying tools and work pack weighing up to 60 lbs.

Schedule & Housing:

· Season length and schedule determined with Volunteer Coordinator.

· Minimum weekly hours: No Minimum.

· Housing or RV site is not available.

Uniform & Conduct:

· Volunteers must wear issued uniform and represent the U.S. National Park Service professionally.

· Maintain a healthy and productive living and working environment.

· Follow Park regulations and Department of the Interior ethics guidelines.

Training:

Our planned VIP trails training dates are:

• October 17, 2026 (8:00am–3:30pm)
• November 14, 2026 (8:00am–3:30pm)
• December 5, 2026 (8:00am–3:30pm)
• January 9, 2027 (8:00am–3:30pm)
• February 6, 2027 (8:00am–3:30pm)

These sessions will serve as orientation for current and prospective volunteers, giving them an opportunity to become familiar with our tools, trail construction practices, and field safety procedures. Completion of this orientation is required.
