Lake Alva Campground Host

Program Overview: The Seeley Lake Ranger District is looking to fill vacancies (individual or couple) as Campground Hosts at the Lake Alva Campground in Seeley Lake, Montana. Hiring preference will be given to individuals who can commit from approximately Mid-May through Mid-September. Selected candidates will be provided a parking spur at the Campground with water, electric, and septic hookups for the duration of the season. Selectees will need to provide their own hard-sided RV or travel trailer.

Major Duties:

Ø Provide information to forest visitors in the campground.

Ø Complete light maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of the campground. Including but not limited to: cleaning toilet facilities, picking up litter, cleaning/painting picnic tables, removing excess ash from fire pits, and clearing debris by mowing, weed eating, and leaf blowing.

Ø Perform attendant duties associated with the recreation.gov reservation system, such as placing/removing tags, and assisting visitors with their reservations. Selectees may be asked to use their personal smart phones to complete this.

Ø Maintain consistent communication with District Recreation staff, Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers, and Montana Fish and Game Wardens. Reports vandalism and safety hazards, as well as repairs needed to facilities.

About the Area:

Lake Alva is a glacial-formed lake situated in a valley between the Swan and Mission mountain ranges. It is one of a half a dozen lakes within the valley known as the 'Chain of Lakes' through which the Clearwater River flows. At an elevation of approximately 4,200 feet, temperatures are relatively cool on summer days. The area contains a wide variety of wildlife and is home to white-tailed deer, elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, grizzly and black bears (learn about bear safety ). Both the bald and golden eagle reside in the forest, along with trumpeter swan, herons and dozens of varieties of ducks. The lake is home to a loon population and has protected nesting areas. The birds' mesmerizing calls can often be heard in the campground. 

Recreation

• The campground is a popular destination for swimming, boating, paddling, picnicking, and fishing. There are a variety of freshwater fish including Kokanee salmon, perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, and trout, among other species.
• Motorized boating is allowed on Lake Alva within the "No-Wake" regulation. Many non-motorized boaters find solace during the evening and morning hours on the lake.
• The Mission Mountain Wilderness Area is about 15 miles northwest of the campground. The area is popular for its scenic views and abundant wildlife. Active glaciers, alpine lakes, meadows and clear, icy streams, along with vertical cliffs and jagged peaks make up the area.
