Mt. Charleston-Campground Host

Located just forty minutes from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area, the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area offers a welcoming retreat into the natural beauty of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. This extraordinary area hosts millions of visitors each year and features a rich diversity of landscapes, from the sunlit foothills dotted with iconic Joshua trees to the high-elevation groves of ancient bristlecone pine trees. Together, these environments create and ever-changing backdrop for exploration, inspiration, and unforgettable outdoor experiences in every season.

To enhance each visit, the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area maintains five developed campgrounds and four picnic areas designed with ease and accessibility in mind. These recreation sites include grills, fire pits, tables, and restrooms, providing invited spaces for families, groups and individual visitors. Ongoing care and maintenance of these facilities help ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience while preserving the natural character of this treasured landscape. That is where our Campground Hosts come in.

Host’s primary responsibility it to ensure that the visitors are having a good experience at their site. With this comes a series of daily duties and responsibilities. Working closely with our recreation team who are also here to ensure the maintenance and completion of the daily duties within the sites. However, it is important to note that the following are the minimum expectations for the upkeep of your site.

Duties performed by the camp host include:

-         Ensuring visitors have paid and have their pay slips are visible (Compliance Checks)

-         Monitor and educate visitor of USFS rules and regulations

-         Inspect individual sites for cleanliness and repair

-         Stocking bathroom with toilet paper

-         Cleaning bathroom facilities including toilets, sinks, floor and walls

-         Cleaning tables of debris, trash, and removing old pay stubs from site posts

-         Stocking fee kiosks with envelopes

-         Updating reservation cards on sites with reservations according to the Daily Arrival Report (DAR)

-         Emptying Fire Pits/ Grills

-         Empty full trash cans in the site, replace liners, and dispose of full trash bags in campground dumpsters

-         Communicate any outstanding repair or visitor issues to Forest Service staff

-         Other light duties necessary to the efficient operation of the campground
