🌿 Become a Weed Warrior at Cabrillo National Monument!

Cabrillo National Monument, located at the southernmost tip of the Point Loma Peninsula, is a vital refuge for native plants and wildlife. As development continues to expand around San Diego, our park plays a critical role in protecting biodiversity. One of the biggest threats to this natural balance? Invasive, non-native plant species.

That’s where you come in.

Join the Weed Warriors Habitat Restoration Team, a dedicated group of volunteers working to restore native habitat by removing harmful invasive plants from the park’s sensitive ecosystems.

🧤 As a Weed Warrior, you will:

  • Gather equipment from the project lead and hike to the designated worksite.
  • Identify and remove invasive, non-native plant species using techniques learned during training.
  • Fill provided bags with removed vegetation and return all equipment to the lead at the end of your shift.

✅ Qualifications:

  • Must be 12 years or older. Volunteers ages 12–17 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Able to bend, kneel, and stoop in uneven, outdoor terrain.
  • Comfortable using small hand tools such as rakes and weeding tools.

🧢 Uniform & Safety Gear:

Provided by the Park:

  • NPS Volunteer hat (broad-brimmed)
  • Safety vest
  • Leather gloves
  • Industrial eye protection
  • Kneeling pad

To Bring from Home:

  • Close-toed shoes (preferably smooth, non-fabric to prevent spread of seeds)
  • Plain long-sleeved shirt and long pants
