Established in 1994, National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event. Led by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), the day celebrates our connection to nature, inspires stewardship, and encourages the use of public lands for recreation, education, and health.
The 2026 theme, “Caring for our Shared America,” evokes the 250th Commemoration and reminds us that we are all collectively the stewards of America's public lands. Through service and celebration, we acknowledge our place as custodians of these shared treasures, ensuring the American tradition of public lands endures for those who will inherit them.
Independence National Historical Park will participate in National Public Lands Day on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM with a trash clean-up event. Volunteers will be provided with all supplies and training.
