Lake Mead National Recreation Area is currently recruiting Resource Steward volunteers. Resource Stewards hike LAKE trails and routes to help monitor park resources while also encouraging safe and positive visitor experiences. Volunteers will be given a priority list of hikes to choose from, and they can schedule their hikes to best fit their own scheduling needs.

Volunteers are required to attend an 8-hour training session on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This training will include logistics and administration, safety messaging and practices, wildlife and vegetation information. Volunteers will be able to identify and report on important information such as disturbances, safety issues, vegetation, and wildlife patterns. Other optional/supplemental training is offered throughout the year.

After their hike, volunteers must fill out a short report form with their observations from the hike. Collected information will be given to park staff to help support the management of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Volunteers in this program should perform duties and select hikes suitable for their abilities and comfort levels.
