Black Lake Campground Host

The Great Divide Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for a motivated volunteer to serve as a campground host at Black Lake Campground. The campground is in northwest Wisconsin, near the towns of Clam Lake, Winter and Hayward. Black lake is about 3 hours and 20 minutes from Minneapolis, 2 hours from Duluth and Superior, 4 hours from Green Bay, and 5 hours from Milwaukee. 

If you are interested in a quiet campground with great fishing and wildlife viewing, then Black Lake Campground might be just what you’re looking for. Campsites are situated within a mixed hardwood forest. The campground features a boat launch and a walking trail which meanders by the lake and through the surrounding forest. The lake holds musky, walleye, largemouth bass, Northern and panfish. Wildlife in the area include elk, whitetail deer, grouse, wild turkey, bear, wolf and numerous other birds and small animals. Elk can be seen along highway GG and near Clam Lake rather frequently.

There are 29 campsites available at Black Lake Campground. Sites can be used for tents and RV camping. Each site has a campfire ring and a picnic table. Vault toilets and drinking water (hand pump well) are also available. The campground also has a trash and recycling area for campers’ convenience.

The host site is elevated and offers spectacular views of the lake. It also features ample parking, a holding tank, and an enclosed storage shed which houses a golf cart and riding lawn mower. It’s also a short walk to the boat launch and scenic bridge.

Fuel, fishing supplies, firewood, ice, laundromat (Winter), Post Office (Winter), grocery (also in Winter) and restaurants are within 15 miles of this campground in the surrounding communities of Loretta, Winter and Clam Lake. Hayward is roughly 35 miles away and has grocery shopping, and a vibrant downtown area with numerous other attractions.

This campground would be considered rustic with no electric or water hookups.
