Volunteer Day at Battery Chamberlin

National Park Service — San Francisco, CA, CA

volunteer

Source: Publicly Sourced

Volunteers will help to maintain the 1904 battery (sweeping and weeding) and then learn about the 118-year old gun. Training with Ranger James, they become part of the "gun crew" which loads the gun, levers it up to firing position, cranks it down and covers it for safekeeping. No actual danger of explosives is involved, but this exercise preserves the gun's status on the National Register of Historic Places! Volunteers 12+ are welcome.
